![]() Now I know lots of you are thinking of your crazy busy schedules with work and family and littles running around all day. When we are well rested, ain’t nothing going to get in our way. One of my favorite authors, Jo Saxton, has said “rest is a weapon”. I’m telling you, you will see a difference when you can set aside the time. When I get the opportunity to do my complete nighttime skin care routine, what a special day that is. I found free YouTube videos that sometimes are less than 20 minutes and sometimes that is all the time I have. During the last few months I have started doing yoga routines from home. I am sure there is a more scientific way to say this, but it releases all the right brain chemicals that make me happy and allow for that audible sigh of peacefulness. You wouldn’t believe the good that does for my day. It makes for the best iced chai lattes (paired with almond milk) and on a morning I do not have to run off to work you will find me making my latte and enjoying it in my favorite chair. Whatever you choose, my advice is to keep it basic.įor example, I have discovered a chai tea mix from Trader Joe’s that I simply adore. Anything that can fall into a self-care category. But I say whatever helps you to wind down after, or prepare for, a busy day, week, or month (too long to go without some sort of relaxing) can count as well. There are some of the classics: a nap, essential oils diffusing, candles, a bath. ![]() Truly, we all have a different activity or place or thing that helps us to relax. But that is not the only way we can relax and take care of ourselves. It is not always a possibility to jet off to an island and lay in the white sand somewhere. ![]() Let us look at it as small set-aside activities or gestures we do for ourselves. I want us to take a different approach to looking at relaxation today. When someone tells you to relax you literally have to unclench, pull the shoulders down, breathe a little more regularly, and actively tell your body to calm (whether you realize it or not). When I think of the word relax, as used in today’s title, I think of an actual practice. Don’t know when it became this way but I want to change it for myself. Humans were never meant to go this speed. We live in a world of go go go and compete for the best job and show off what you’ve accomplished and compare to everyone else to make sure you are running the best race. We do not live in a world that admires rest.
